10 Ways To Live And Not Merely Exist

ways to live and not merely existThere is quite a difference between living and simply existing in this world. Ignoring the option to live and choosing to merely exist instead refers to putting life on autopilot, playing the hand you were dealt and going through the motions necessary for a stable routine that seems to make each day on this earth as painless as possible.

Does this sound like someone who is truly taking advantage of and embracing what it means to be a human being with hopes, dreams, passion and the gift of free will?

To many people get comfortable with the first form of comfort or security life brings them because they believe deviating from it will only bring confusion and regret. They do not realize that the first step to seeing the joy and beauty this world has to offer is stepping outside one’s boundaries.

We are in control of the chances we have to bring our greatest fantasies to reality, and in order to enjoy these luxuries we must become the type of person who deserves them. You need to put your hands on the steering wheel and take full responsibility of the direction your life is about to take.

Below are the 10 simple suggestions for those who want to break through the monotony of just living on auto pilot and reap the rewards of life’s glorious experiences and opportunities.

1. Be who you really are-

As the good old saying goes, “if you are lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change.” Being unique is a gift that cannot be matched in worth and our individuality was given to us to show its beauty to the rest of the world.

Why try to be like someone else when you already have all the tools to be the best person you can be? People will respect you for being yourself, and if they laugh at you for being different, all you can do is pity their lack of individuality and open mindedness in return.

2. Realize those who love you-

You are going to come across a lot of different people in your life. This is why it is important to remember those who make an effort to show their love and compassion for you and spot those who only pretend to do this to take advantage of you.

Keeping those who truly value you as a person as close as possible will reflect on your moral character, the way you treat those who treat you with the respect you deserve. These are the people you can always trust because they are only trying to help you in everything you do, so be grateful for each day you spend with them.

3. Appreciate the great people and things in your life. -

It is impossible to stress just how important it is to be grateful for everything you have. You may not know it, but you have been given a lot of things (be they people or possessions or traits) that have made your life so much more enjoyable than it could have been had you not been given these blessings.

Appreciate each aspect of your life that gives even the least bit of comfort or joy. Truly appreciate life, and you’ll find that you have more of it to live.

4. Embrace change and enjoy your life as it unfolds. -

Changes will come your way whether you see them coming or not. Without change, we become stagnant and do not grow intellectually and emotionally. Yes, of course it is hard to let go of what we are used to and move on to something we are not comfortable with at first but that is necessary if you want to gain the strength and knowledge to take full control of your life.

Laugh at the confusion, live consciously in the moment, and enjoy your life as it unfolds. You might not end up exactly where you intended to go, but eventually you will arrive precisely where you need to be.

5. Do things your future self will thank you for. -

Your future self will be exactly what you set him or her out to be. What you do in your life now will eventually be the stepping stones for your future. What you do everyday to work towards securing a fruitful future matters more than what you do every once in a while to stimulate yourself.

What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for your own sanity and fulfillment. Make sure it’s worthwhile. And make sure it is building yourself up for your future.

6. Leave enough time for fun. -

Taking an alternative perspective towards everything life throws at us and laughing about it as a result is a vital part of being human. You need to have some fun so you get to enjoy the rewards all your hard work has earned you. Sometimes you just need to let loose and just enjoy an evening or a weekend away.

Giving your mind a break or just a night off will remind you that a good night out with your friends is easily worth all of the energy you exert to get through the week.

7. Accept the fact that the past is not today. -

The past is the past and that is where it needs to stay. You might not be happy with your past and it might eat you up inside but there is no point in stressing over something you cannot change. Now is the time to open new doors and start new chapters.

Why worry about what has already happened when there is the chance for you to change what is happening to you right now right at your feet?

8.  Choose to listen to your inner voice. -

Life is a courageous journey or nothing at all. We cannot become who we want to be by continuing to do exactly the same things we’ve been doing to get through the day over and over again. Choose to listen to your inner voice, not the jumbled opinions of everyone else. Do what you know in your heart is right for YOU. It’s your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

9. Enjoy the little things in life. -

The best things in life are free. There is absolute joy and wonder to be had in the simplest of moments, from watching the sunset over the horizon or spending time with a family member. Enjoy the little things, because one day you may look back and discover they were really what made life worthwhile.

10. Love yourself too. -

You need to be one with yourself and understand that if you don’t love yourself, no one else will. Love who you are and love everything about you so that your inner confidence can always be at its peak. Once you begin to love yourself you will see how others around you start treating you with more respect and care.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No matter who you are or what you do, you will always have your own soul and that is something anyone should be grateful to have.
